Grading Labs
GIA has been serving the Indian gem and jewellery industry since 2004 when it first opened its Mumbai campus, and four years later, a state-of-the art grading laboratory in the same location.
GIA is located in Bandra-Kurla Complex, close to the Bharat Diamond Bourse. Staffed by a seasoned team of instructors, gemmologists and graders, the Mumbai laboratory and educational facilities cater to the needs of manufacturers, traders and retailers across the country.
In 2018, GIA opened a new laboratory in Surat to meet the needs of the global gem and jewellery industry. The new laboratory in Surat offers diamond manufacturers based in this important diamond center direct local access to GIA’s laboratory services. GIA educational programmes are also offered at the same location.

Managing Director of GIA India
Mr. Natarajan has over 30 years of experience in a variety of industries and geographies, and expertise in the areas of business strategy, manufacturing management, building organizational capability, and leadership coaching. Prior to joining GIA, Mr. Natarajan was the Country Manager and Managing Director of CIRCOR International's India operations where he was responsible for developing and executing the growth strategy in India. He also served as CEO at NALS Outdoors India and held several leadership positions at Eaton Corporation. He has a MBA from University of North Carolina, Charlotte and a MS in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University, Tempe.
Education and Market Development
Mr. Deshingkar, with GIA India since 2009, is responsible for providing strategic leadership to Education vertical, apart from leading the institute's market outreach, its marketing and corporate communication for Laboratory Services in India using a variety of traditional and digital touchpoints to help GIA fulfill its mission. During his 29-year work-life, he has worked with world-class brands and handled assignments at different stages viz. inception, growth, consolidation and turnaround in an organization's business-cycle. He is an Electronics Engineer from VJTI, Mumbai and an MMS graduate in Marketing from NMIMS, Mumbai.

Mr. Hansotia has rich experience in areas of general management, HR, corporate planning, and project management. In his previous roles, he has worked with companies in the financial services and retail sector prior to joining GIA. An engineer and a MBA from Mumbai University, he has been leading the corporate support functions at GIA India for the last ten years.

Ms. Javeri, G.G., A.J.P., joined GIA India in 2008 and has gradually risen through various profiles including in laboratory operations, quality assurance and customer service. She has around 15 years of experience in the diamond industry and is a Commerce graduate from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai.
India has emerged as a significant hub for diamond cutting, trading, and coloured gemstones. GIA expanded its independent gemstone evaluation services to India in 2008. Since then, GIA India has grown, assisting the Indian gem and jewellery industry in reaching new markets. GIA India collaborates with trade associations at various levels, conducting complimentary knowledge seminars and training programmes as well as participating in industry events nationwide.
